Top 10 Cities of India

1. Mumbai
Capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India and the ninth
most populous agglomeration in the world, with an estimated city population of 18.4 million.

2. Chennai
Capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coast off the
Bay of Bengal, it is the biggest industrial and commercial centre in South India,
and a major cultural, economic and educational centre. 

3. Bangalore
Capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. It has a population of about 8.42 million and a
metropolitan population of about 8.52 million, making it the third most populous cityand fifth
most populous urban agglomeration in India.

4. Chandigarh
City and a union territory in the northern part of India that serves as the capital of the states of
Punjab and Haryana. As a union territory, the city is ruled directly by the Union Government
of India and is not part of either state.

5. New Delhi
Capital of India and seat of the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches of the Government
of India. It is also the centre of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
New Delhi is situated within the metropolis of Delhi and is one of the eleven districts of the
National Capital Territory of Delhi

6. Ahmadabad
Largest city and former capital of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarters of the
Ahmedabad district and the seat of the Gujarat High Court. With a population of
more than 5.5 million and an extended population of 6.3 million, it is the sixth
largest city and seventh largest metropolitan area of India.

7. Pune
Ninth-most populous city in India and the second largest in the state of Maharashtra after
the state capital city of Mumbai. Pune is also the 71st largest city in the world,by population.

8. Kolkata
Capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly river, it is
the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of
Kolkata is India's oldest operating port and its sole major riverine port.

9. Jaipur
Capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan in Northern India.It was founded on
18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer, after whom the
city is named. The city today has a population of 6.66 million, making it the tenth most
populous city in the country. Jaipur is known as the Pink City of India.

10. Surat
Surat had a population of 4.6 million at the 2011 census, making it the second largest city in the
state of Gujarat, after Ahmedabad. It is the eighth largest city and ninth largest metropolitan
area of India. Surat is the 34th-largest city by area and 4th-fastest developing cities in
a study conducted by the City Mayors Foundation, an international think tank 
on urban affairs.
